This extremely renown psychological experiment that was created to reveal the effects of imprisonment, reveals the extent to which power can change one's action. In this experiment, everything went too far, and they were forced to stop the experiment before completion. The guards took advantage of the power that they withheld, and forced the prisoners to do very demeaning acts. The prisoners tried to rebel, but they would just endure more punishments from the guards. The independent variable is which group the people belong to; either the guards or the prisoners. The dependent variable is the psychological effect of this placement.
